An expansion of the existing ASUS headquarters, the new campus features a 13,311-square-meter office building that received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) v4 for Building Design and Construction (BD+C) Platinum certification. LEED v4 Platinum is the highest level of the LEED certification and is given to buildings that are designed to the most exacting standards of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. LEED assessments consider a building's location, proximity to public transportation, energy and water efficiency, use of sustainable building materials and resources, atmosphere and quality of its indoor environment, innovative features and more.
At the festive opening ceremony, featuring a traditional dance performed by the ASUS lion dance club and a performance by a percussion ensemble, ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih received a LEED certification emblem presented by Senior Vice Chairman of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Mili Majumdar. Designed for sustainability, the new campus has more than 5,000 square meters of green space that preserves the biodiversity and natural ecology of the surrounding area. The campus also observes smart energy-saving practices that reduce its carbon footprint as well as water-saving measures that surpass the LEED standard by 55% for indoor water use and enable 100% of outdoor irrigation to be completed using collected rainwater.
The building implements new intelligent control technologies that allow the air-conditioning system to maintain optimum operating efficiency under various conditions. High-quality air filters enable external air systems to provide exemplary air circulation. The new building is also equipped with solar panels, a rooftop garden, a heat-reflecting cool roof and a glass ceiling that allows natural light to illuminate the main lobby.
When designing the new campus, comprehensive software planning and investment was made in information communication, systems integration, energy conservation management and intelligent innovation, including efficient wireless network communication, a public digital information bulletin service and smart license-plate-identification and parking guidelines. Furthermore, the building’s elevator system saves up to 35% more energy compared to traditional elevator systems. In recognition of these comprehensive measures taken in the building’s design, the Taiwan Ministry of the Interior presented ASUS its highest rating, the Diamond Certificate of Intelligent Building.
