ASUS takes legal action to ensure fair licensing practices

Following Nokia’s actions in Germany and other jurisdictions, ASUS believes that NOKIA’s proposed licensing terms and negotiation approach are not consistent with FRAND (Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory) principles. To protect its rights and those of its customers, ASUS has initiated countersuit proceedings to ensure a fair and balanced path forward.

ASUS further believes that Nokia’s current licensing practices are inconsistent with its commitments and applicable competition principles, and we are seeking clarity and fairness through appropriate legal channels.

A collaborative approach to innovation

ASUS firmly believes that patent licensing should be grounded in collaboration and support the continued advancement of innovation across the industry. When conducted on FRAND terms, licensing creates mutually beneficial outcomes for both technology contributors and product implementers.

In line with this approach, ASUS has engaged in multiple rounds of discussions with Nokia in good faith, including numerous virtual and in-person discussions. Despite these efforts, the parties have not been able to reach agreement on reasonable licensing terms.
