ASUS Empowers Startup Incubation Through Industry-Academia Cooperation

On November 17th, 2023, ASUS attended the Incubation Center Gathering held by the Youth Department of New Taipei City Government. This event was a follow-up to the three major Youth Entrepreneurship Support Programs begun by the Youth Department this March. Launched in response to the wide diversity of needs among young entrepreneurs, the programs aim to cultivate future talent by providing support and guidance to startups.

In addition to the programs, the Youth Department invited various enterprises to share their experience and expertise with the young entrepreneurs. ASUS was one of the companies that participated in the event, sharing entrepreneurial information and examples to inspire new innovation development from startups.

This year, the Youth Department provided substantial support to school incubators and received feedback from incubation centers on how to improve the city’s policies regarding youth entrepreneurship. Importantly, the Youth Department encouraged government agencies to work with selected startups. Furthermore, they also offered professional mentor consultation, media exposure, and general resources for new businesses.

Startup Island Taiwan and Amazon Web Services also spoke at the event about their involvement in Taiwan’s startup ecosystem. Both speakers discussed the key objectives of their companies in the startup scene as well as the many programs and resources they offer to accelerate innovation and youth entrepreneurship.

James first gave a brief history of ASUS’ continuous transformation and evolution. He also introduced the framework of ASUS DNA, which is composed of four core values that serve as the cornerstones of our corporate culture.

One example of such cooperation is the partnership between ASUS and the National Taiwan University Innovation and Incubation Center (NTUIIC). The two teamed up to establish a corporate vertical accelerator program with a focus on three major areas: electric vehicle applications, green technology, and gamification experience. James highlighted that by leveraging external innovation, ASUS can accelerate its internal innovation while also providing new business opportunities for startups, creating a win-win situation for both parties.

James also discussed ASUS’ involvement in the Smart City Demo, which was the first contest organized by the New Taipei City Youth Department. With the theme of private large language model (LLM) development, ASUS gave startups the opportunity to showcase their business models in the application areas of AIoT, product optimization, and digital education. In addition to helping to explore the potential of LLM development, the contest also helped to drive the progress of New Taipei City’s smart city initiative.

At ASUS, we are dedicated to promoting strategic and entrepreneurial innovation that builds industry capacity and advances academic knowledge and capabilities. ASUS will continue to leverage industry-academia cooperation to empower young entrepreneurs and seek out new business development opportunities to create successful ecosystem partnerships. Together with university and government representatives, ASUS hopes to do its part in assisting startups and bringing in more momentum to the entrepreneurship environment in Taiwan.
