On November 9th, 2023, ASUS co-CEO S.Y. Hsu was invited by the Fudan University School of Management to speak at the 2023 Cross-Strait New Economy Momentum Forum in Taipei, Taiwan. The event brought together industry and academic thought leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges of technological innovation. Additionally, the forum serves as an opportunity for cross-strait entrepreneurship, development, and exchanges to foster deeper understanding and growth on both sides.
The event kicked off with an opening speech from Xiong-Wen Lu, Dean of the Fudan University School of Management, on the importance of cross-strait exchanges as well as Taiwan’s development in the ever-changing technological landscape.
The audience also heard from Shi-Zheng Qian, Professor of Accountancy at Fudan University, who gave a speech on the challenges in the era of the data economy. While financial data is an objective basis that is used to reflect a company’s operating conditions, profitability indicators alone cannot reflect the value of a company. According to Qian, the most crucial thing to evaluate an enterprise is to look at whether they really create value for the users and society.
The next speaker was Hong-Yuan Lee, the former Minister of the Interior for Taiwan and now professor of Hydraulic Engineering at National Taiwan University (NTU). He discussed the impacts of climate change and the adaptation strategies needed to combat it.

ASUS demonstrates its commitment to continuous innovation
ASUS’ own co-CEO S.Y. Hsu spoke at the forum during the roundtable discussion on technological innovation. He highlighted the corporate transformation that ASUS initiated in 2018 to meet the needs of the new digital era, as well as the establishment of its Innovation Development Office (IDO) to further push the boundaries of innovation.
In addition, S.Y. spoke about the Formosa Foundation Model (FFM), the world’s first large language model (LLM) with advanced capabilities in traditional Chinese. The FFM was released by ASUS’ subsidiary, Taiwan Web Service Cooperation (TWSC), earlier this year. By offering enterprise-level generative AI solutions through a novel business model, ASUS is able to provide flexibility, security, and rapid optimization – further driving AI intelligence application innovation across the industry.

Lastly, S.Y. also briefly mentioned ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih, who attended the 2023 Intel Innovation event in Taipei on November 7th and provided a demonstration of the FFM to Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger. Using a 7-billion parameter variant of the FFM model that had been compressed into a Zenbook laptop, ASUS demonstrated that its LLM is able to provide an AI chat function on a PC without having to access the internet.
Through exchanges like this year’s Cross-Strait New Economy Momentum Forum, ASUS hopes to build a stronger momentum in developing deeper relations between cross-strait industries. By jointly promoting and exchanging industry insights on technological innovation, ASUS aims to increase cooperation and communication as well as create a win-win situation for cross-strait opportunities.
