Building a Cybersecurity Culture
To increase cybersecurity awareness and build a strong culture internally, ASUS develops and reinforces its cybersecurity management through multiple programs. These initiatives range from annual cybersecurity courses for all employees to large-scale meetings on topics such as cybersecurity trends, process improvement, and policy review.
In 2021, ASUS established a Digital Security Center — a dedicated management unit that promotes and implements digital safety measures for the company. This center focuses on improving cybersecurity awareness and specializes in internal and external security management-related issues, including risk management, defense engineering drills, and personnel education.
Cybersecurity Week boosts cybersecurity awareness and offers cybersecurity training
As part of its plans to strengthen ASUS’ digital resilience, the Digital Security Center hosted its first Cybersecurity Week this September. The event aimed to educate and encourage employees to learn more about the different types of cyber threats and methods to defend against them. The week-long event included multiple keynote sessions as well as an internal talent competition on security coding. Over 200 ASUS employees came together to improve their cybersecurity knowledge and skills.
A variety of cybersecurity experts, including cybersecurity analysts, data security strategists, senior engineers, and an IBM security consultant were invited to share their knowledge and experience. This included giving employees a general overview on everything from good password practices and confidentiality obligations to communication protocols and phishing scams.
The keynote sessions also highlighted the need to take on a zero-trust approach to enhance digital safety. Zero-trust is a cybersecurity model that regularly requires the verification of all users, regardless of where they are accessing the network from. This is essential for companies that have remote or hybrid workplace models as it helps strengthen the cybersecurity of network services for employees working outside the office.
Keynote speakers also discussed the Secure Software Development Life Cycle (SSDLC), a framework that includes security considerations across software development processes, and the Damn Vulnerable Web Application (DVWA), a tool that helps developers better understand web application security. Both of these can be utilized by companies to improve the security of their software and websites.
From the smallest business to the largest corporation, cybersecurity is something that cannot be ignored.
