- Why did you choose to join ASUS?

This is a story that always brings a smile to my face. During my university years, Taiwan was booming in the tech industry. Back then, being a part of a tech company seemed like the ultimate dream – exciting and lucrative. ASUS particularly caught my eye. So, while still a student, I jumped at the opportunity to intern at ASUS. Witnessing the vibrant sales and marketing environment firsthand solidified my desire to work in this successful tech company promoting a strong Taiwanese brand.

- What has it been like as a woman working in the technology industry?

It never occurred to me that being a woman in tech would mean different treatment or special benefits. I firmly believe that regardless of your gender, you can achieve your goals if you have the passion and perseverance to pursue them. My personal philosophy is, if someone else can do it, I can too. In fact, I believe being a woman in technology can be an advantage because you stand out, and people tend to remember you. Moreover, women often possess a unique kind of persistence, which can be a powerful asset in the tech industry.

- Have you faced any obstacles in your career because you are a woman?

No, I haven’t. Your success depends primarily on your own drive and persistence. If you have a clear goal and consistently put in the effort, the universe will conspire in your favor. External factors like gender play a smaller, though not insignificant, role.

- Why do you think it is important for women to work in the technology industry?

I strongly believe that women bring a unique and valuable perspective to the technology industry. We contribute fresh ideas, stimulate creativity, and drive innovation. Our inherent softness and quiet persistence are powerful assets. My weekly yoga practice helps me cultivate these qualities. I appreciate the diversity within ASUS, where people from different backgrounds work collaboratively to promote a Taiwanese brand.

- Why did you choose to join ASUS?

The company has a very good reputation and the salary is reasonable. All my team leaders put a lot of effort into making sure that we are productive and have a good work-life balance. The facilities the company provides for us, such as swimming pool and gym, are really good. Exercising gives me more confidence and mental energy to focus on my job.

- What has it been like as a woman working in the technology industry?

I can't say now that being a woman makes a difference. This is my first time working in a technology company. Both women and men have the opportunity to work in this industry. For me, the most exciting thing is that I get to work with the latest cutting-edge technology and be able to apply it.

- Have you faced any obstacles in your career because you are a woman?

All my team leaders have done a great job in terms of equality for all employees. It is not about gender. Maybe it's the ideas that some people still have about women in general. Even though it's 2024, a lot of people still think that girls should be sweet and take care of others and not pursue their own goals and ambitions. I never wanted to be what others wanted me to be. Sometimes it's a bit exhausting to go against the grain, but at the end of the day I have my own dreams and goals.

- Why do you think it is important for women to work in the technology industry?

I believe a wide variety of individuals participating in all industries is incredibly valuable. Not only does this diversity foster a more inclusive environment and decrease harmful stereotypes like "women should do X" or "men should act like Y," but it also serves as a constant reminder that everyone is an independent individual. This understanding encourages mutual respect and appreciation for each person's unique contributions, replacing discriminatory attitudes with an emphasis on individual merit.

- Why did you choose to join ASUS?

Coming from an academic background in Electrical Engineering, I joined ASUS, because it is a well-established company, where I've been working for over a year now.

- What has it been like as a woman working in the technology industry?

The technology sector I work in, specifically the gaming systems, research and development, and hardware engineering departments, tend to have a higher proportion of men. However, I'm fortunate that my manager grants me a great deal of freedom and flexibility, which I appreciate in their leadership style. In my experience, men and women often approach leadership differently. Women may exhibit a more gentle style, while men tend to be more direct. This being my first job, I'm gaining valuable insight into these distinctions.

- Have you faced any obstacles in your career because you are a woman?

Thankfully, I haven't personally encountered any obstacles during my career, specifically at ASUS. It's encouraging to see that the outdated stereotype, prevalent during my school years, of women being relegated to administrative roles and viewed as inferior to men is no longer reflected in my current work environment. At ASUS, I'm treated with respect and given equal opportunities to take on a variety of responsibilities.

- Why do you think it is important for women to work in the technology industry?

A career in technology offers strong earning potential. It's crucial to have women well-represented in tech companies for diverse perspectives and innovation. There are still a lot of men, especially in engineering, but ASUS is very progressive in this regard.

Firmware Engineer, AIoT BU

- Why did you choose to join ASUS?

I joined ASUS about a year ago, directly after completing my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering here in Taiwan. ASUS is a renowned international brand with an unwavering passion for technology and a dedication to innovation. The company's mission to create effortless and joyful digital experiences resonates with me deeply.

- What has it been like as a woman working in the technology industry?

I take great pride in being a firmware engineer in the technical industry. It's incredibly fulfilling to pursue a career that aligns with my passions. In fact, I often imagine encountering friends who use ASUS products, and being able to tell them that I was the one who fixed the bug. Moments like that bring me a deep sense of accomplishment.

- Have you faced any obstacles in your career because you are a woman?

During my time working at ASUS, I haven't experienced any gender-based obstacles in my career development.

- Why do you think it is important for women to work in the technology industry?

Whether or not the technology industry is a good fit for you depends on your personal goals. If you're passionate about technology, enjoy working with innovative ideas, and want to be involved in rapidly developing fields, then this industry could be a perfect match for you.

- Why did you choose to join ASUS?

ASUS' reputation as a global brand is undeniable. However, it's equally important for me to maintain a healthy work-life balance, and ASUS fosters that perfectly. As a large company, ASUS has the resources and responsibility to prioritize its employees' well-being, which I deeply appreciate. Their commitment to sustainable practices within such a large-scale enterprise is also commendable.

- What has it been like as a woman working in the technology industry?

Thus far, I haven't observed anything out of the ordinary regarding gender dynamics at ASUS. My experience reinforces the belief that true equality in the workplace is possible. Opportunity and advancement should always be determined by an individual's skills and qualifications, regardless of gender.

- Have you faced any obstacles in your career because you are a woman?

No, not at the moment. Women are valued and respected, and they are not treated differently or disadvantaged because of their gender. Additionally, ASUS seems supportive of women throughout their pregnancy and assists their smooth transition back to work after giving birth. I've witnessed this firsthand with several colleagues in my department. This welcoming approach to pregnancy is not always the norm, and I believe it makes ASUS a particularly positive and supportive work environment for women.

- Why do you think it is important for women to work in the technology industry?

Choosing a career in the technology industry offers multiple advantages, including exposure to cutting-edge innovations and the potential for higher salaries.

- Why did you choose to join ASUS?

I'm particularly interested in leveraging programming, automation tools, and other cutting-edge technologies to solve complex problems and discover innovative solutions. Recognizing ASUS as a global leader in the technology industry, I saw it as the perfect platform to align my interests with a company at the forefront of innovation.

- What has it been like as a woman working in the technology industry?

Being a woman in the technology industry has been a positive experience for me, everyone is nice. I'm surrounded by supportive colleagues, and I've had the privilege of contributing to interesting projects alongside talented individuals. This collaboration keeps me constantly engaged and motivated.

- Have you faced any obstacles in your career because you are a woman?

There’s no denying the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated field. Gender bias and stereotypes can sometimes create obstacles, whether it's a lack of representation in leadership positions or being underestimated in technical discussions. These challenges can be frustrating at times, but they also fuel my determination to excel and prove my worth.

- Why do you think it is important for women to work in the technology industry?

Women's presence in the technology industry is vital for a number of reasons. They bring diverse perspectives, which can stimulate creativity and innovation. This can improve products and services. Women also serve as role models and mentors, inspiring the next generation of female technologists. Overall, their participation is essential for driving innovation and promoting diversity.
