An Inside Look at Working in ASUS Global Event Team

An Inside Look at Working in ASUS Global Event Team

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Joyce Huang and I’m from Taiwan. Growing up, I moved around a lot. When I was little, I lived in England with my family for four years. Then, I came back to Taiwan and stayed until I graduated from middle school. After that, I moved to Texas, in the United States, for high school, and then California to study journalism at San Francisco State University. In total, I have lived more than 13 years abroad.

After coming back to Taiwan, I worked in the gaming industry as a senior marketing specialist for more than three years before joining ASUS HQ. I have been a member of the Global Event Team for about 1.7 years now.

Why did you choose to join ASUS?

I chose to join ASUS because I’ve always been passionate about working in the marketing field. I am really interested in exploring a range of industries’ marketing strategies and observing how consumer behavior varies when executing different marketing campaigns. So, with my previous marketing experience from the gaming industry, and my interest in the tech industry, ASUS seemed like a perfect fit.

Could you explain what you do at ASUS?

Here at ASUS HQ’s Global Event Team, we are responsible for the company’s global product launches, international exhibitions, and global awards. Previously (pre-pandemic), most of the ASUS product launches were physical events. But after the pandemic, when physical events became hard for media to attend, many events moved online. So, now we also have to work on many virtual events.

Thinking of your job, if someone wants to work in events: What qualities or skills does this person need?

An event owner has to tailor their strategy to their audience demographic, organize content that promotes the product, make personnel decisions, and ensure every detail of the event is pulled off as efficiently and problem-free as possible.

So, I think you have to be able to stay calm under high pressure, be flexible, and capable of adapting to change. You also need to be well organized, a good problem solver, and have great time management skills. Most importantly, you need to be passionate about events.

ROG’s CES 2023 Virtual Launch Event

During your time at ASUS so far, which project have you been most proud of? Did you get an opportunity to go on a business trip? Is there anything else you want to mention?

I’m proud of all of the projects I’ve owned because I dedicated months of hard work and effort to each one so that the outcomes were as perfect as possible. However, I’m particularly proud of ROG’s CES 2023 Virtual Launch Event that was livestreamed globally in January, 2023. This was the first ROG event I’ve owned, and, with more than 20 items to showcase, the most products that I ever had to manage. As part of my preparation, I worked with a production agency to come up with a storyline to differentiate the product lines, highlight product features, and make the event flow interesting. It was a successful result – we were able to grow our potential reach by 190% over the previous year and we became the No. 1 Google search brand during CES.

I’m also proud of the 2022 IFA Media Day, held in Berlin, Germany, because it was both my first business trip abroad and also the first physical event I’ve ever owned. Additionally, this was the first time that ASUS had held a physical press event abroad since the pandemic.  We were there to launch the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED and other Zenbook models. Media that attended the event had a great hands-on experience with our products, and we received great online exposure and coverage from many tier- 1 media.

What is your favorite thing about ASUS?

ASUS is a big company, meaning that you have to work with colleagues from different teams, with different backgrounds, and different nationalities. I’ve learned so much from all the colleagues that I’ve worked with – each person has their own strengths and qualities to admire. I’m really glad to be a part of this big family.

And finally, how do you feel about your time working with ASUS so far and the experiences you have had?

Time flies working here because of the busy schedule, but I’ve learned so much since I joined ASUS. I also want to thank my team leader, Evelyn, for always providing me with guidance and sharing her valuable experience.
