ASUS recently unveiled its latest technologies in high-performance computing (HPC), supercomputing, and AI at the SC24 show in Atlanta. With over 14,000 attendees, the event provided a platform for collaboration among industry leaders, professionals, and students to shape the future of computing.
ASUS made a big impact at SC24, showcasing its advanced technologies that focus on pushing the boundaries of AI and computing in areas like advanced infrastructure and cooling solutions. And, of course, each new technology fully embodies the core principles of the ASUS server team: “Superior Cooling. Density. Sustainability. Shaping the Future of AI.”
Explainer box:
What is High-Performance Computing (HPC)?
A regular computer handles everyday tasks such as browsing the web or checking email, whereas HPC systems are designed to perform large-scale calculations. This could be leveraged for scientific research, simulations, and big data analysis.
What is a Supercomputer?
A supercomputer is thousands of times faster and more powerful than a regular computer and capable of solving complex mathematical problems in fractions of a second.
SC24 key highlights:
Taiwan’s largest data center & 31st largest globally
ASUS in collaboration with Ubilink – a joint venture formed by Foxlink, Ubitus, and Shinfox Energy – announced the development of Taiwan's largest data center. Ranked 31st on the global TOP500 and 44th on the Green500, the facility is paving the way for advancements in AI, HPC, and green energy. Setting a new benchmark of AI computing, the data center is powered by 128 ASUS ESC N8-E11 servers, each equipped with NVIDIA HGX H100 GPUs, totaling 1,024 GPU cards.
Next-Gen Infrastructure Solutions
ASUS is advancing digital transformation with HPC and AI-driven server systems for diverse enterprise needs, including the ASUS AI POD with NVIDIA GB200 NVL72, designed for high-speed communication and optimized LLM training. The ESC8000A-E13P HPC server supports large-scale deployments with up to eight PCIe GPUs, while the ESC N8-E11V and ESC N8A-E13 offer specialized solutions for generative AI.
ASUS also enhances data center efficiency by partnering with cooling providers to offer liquid-to-air and liquid-to-liquid systems, achieving up to 95% heat dissipation. These solutions optimize cooling from individual systems like the ASUS AI POD with NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 to entire data centers and cooling towers. Their rigorous testing ensures optimal performance, minimizing energy use and operational costs. To tackle large deployments efficiently, the ASUS Infrastructure Deployment Center empowers data centers with rapid OS deployment, simplified setup, and accelerated installation, minimizing time-to-value.
A server to serve all business sizes
ASUS is accelerating enterprise digital transformation with a full lineup of server systems powered by AMD and Intel, offering adaptive solutions for startups, research institutions, large enterprises, and government organizations to unlock value from big data. For generative AI, ASUS presented systems like the ESC A8A-E12U featuring AMD EPYC™ 9005 processors and Instinct™ MI325X accelerators, and the ESC I8-E11 supporting Intel Gaudi® 3 accelerators, delivering scalable performance for various AI workloads. For HPC applications, the ASUS RS920Q-E12 and RS720Q-E12 leverage Intel Xeon® 6 processors (AP and SP for diverse workloads) to enhance workload density and performance.
ASUS Storage Solutions
As AI, HPC, and storage demands grow, traditional storage systems struggle with scalability and flexibility. The ASUS RS501A-E12-RS12U, designed for AI computing and software-defined storage (SDS), delivers the speed and efficiency required for demanding workloads, providing organizations with flexible deployment and scalable solutions to meet evolving needs.
Executive Dialogue
An executive dialogue led by Ubitus K.K. CEO Wesley Kuo, focusing on the topic "Transform the Future: AI Innovations", was held at the ASUS booth. Wesley discussed the significance of computing power and highlighted the joint venture between Foxlink Group, Ubitus K.K., and Shinfox Energy to create Ubilink.AI.
The talk also covered Ubilink’s success in establishing Taiwan’s largest supercomputing facility, where ASUS provided solutions in infrastructure installation, cooling and power management, auto-detection and recovery tools, and software platforms and services.
AI Innovations in Action
The ASUS booth was also home to excitement and fun as attendees were treated to a range of AI demonstrations! A robotic dog, powered by NVIDIA Jetson and two NVIDIA HGX H100 GPUs, stole the show by understanding natural language commands with no coding needed. It could even recognize objects and react accordingly! Additionally, visitors to the booth were able to have some fun interactions with the robotic dog in different languages utilizing LLMs that were run on the ASUS ESC N8-E11.
Meanwhile, the AI Avatar, Ubichan, delighted visitors by answering questions in any language, posing for photos, and letting everyone save their snapshots with a quick QR scan.
